The human race has been given a wonderful and powerful gift in this thing we call "music." Through the centuries it's been used to enhance worship, celebration, relaxation, contemplation, and so  much more.  Even without words, music is amazing! Instrumental music engages the intellect and the emotions. While not conveying specific thoughts, its melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and form take the active listener on a kind of journey.

Like many forms of human expression, music can be beautiful or ugly, inviting or repulsive, joyful or angry, coldly intellectual or mindlessly emotive . Music has such an impact on people, that we would likely be offended by a potentially great movie that wasn't accompanied by music. There are now even books with their own soundtracks.

Creating music is a kind of journey--an adventure! On this journey, I am always attracted to those elements that will convey sonic beauty. I don't really care  how novel or archaic these elements might be; I only care that, when combined, they make sense to the ear.

As I explore the possibilities of music, I'm often reminded that even the most "creative" among us don't really create anything. All any of us can really do is re-arrange what has already been supplied.  Thanks to God for the gift of music!
